Guest can also utilize the Charlotte Area Transit System – LYNX Blue line which stops at the 7th Street Station, just a few feet from First Ward Park.  Please plan ample time for parking so you arrive at least 15 minutes before the scheduled departure time.

Our tours run year-round rain or shine.

  • In the Summer the bus is an open-air ride without AC.
  • If it's raining we keep the windows closed, we don't want to get wet either.
  • During cold weather, we turn on both heaters and keep the windows closed.
How far in advance should I buy my ticket? Webmaster 2022-03-09T16:31:31-05:00

Tickets are sold on a first-come, first-served basis and we have limited seating on the bus. So it's always best to purchase tickets in advance. Occasionally we can honor last-minute ticket sales.

How is the seating arranged? Webmaster 2022-03-09T16:26:03-05:00

Seating is on a first-come, first-served basis. If you have a ticket you have a seat and there isn't a bad seat on the bus. If you want to sit together we suggest you arrive early.

Can we bring alcoholic beverages on the bus? Webmaster 2022-03-09T16:29:33-05:00

Sorry, beer and wine only, please. Passengers may be asked to provide ID to prove they are 21 years of age or older. If you bring a cooler on board the bus it must fit on your lap. All beverages must be closed when you board the bus and no open containers will be allowed off the bus.

Is the tour appropriate for all ages? Webmaster 2022-03-09T16:32:48-05:00

No, the jokes heard on the bus are similar to ones heard in a comedy club. Just like an R-rated movie, no one under 17 is permitted. The only exception is our PG-13 tour in Charlotte, NC.

Are car seats allowed? Webmaster 2022-04-19T11:39:10-04:00

No, there aren't seat belts on the bus, so small children or babies are not allowed. Refunds will not be issued for tickets purchased for small children or babies.

Is it appropriate to leave a gratuity? Webmaster 2022-03-09T16:19:33-05:00

Gratuities are never expected but always appreciated by the drivers and comedians. Believe us, once you've gone on the tour you'll want to tip them.

How should I dress? Webmaster 2022-03-09T16:27:23-05:00

Wear anything you like except your birthday suit. Keep in mind our bus is an open-air bus similar to a trolley, so we recommend you wear weather-appropriate clothing. If it's cold or raining we will roll down the clear vinyl window coverings and turn on the heaters if needed to prevent the cold air or rain from getting in the bus as best we can. The bus does not have air conditioning.

How long does the tour last? Webmaster 2022-03-09T16:23:18-05:00

Each tour will last about 90 minutes with a 15-minute bathroom break in the middle of the tour.

What is the cancellation policy? Webmaster 2022-04-19T11:46:41-04:00

Our policy is NO REFUNDS for any reason. Why would you want to cancel such a fun time?

That being said, in the rare event we don't have enough passengers registered for a tour, we may have to cancel it. We will do our best to make this decision 2 hours before tour time. All passengers will be notified using the contact information you provided during the booking process.

Is the bus wheelchair accessible? Webmaster 2022-03-09T16:30:38-05:00

Unfortunately not. The bus doesn't have a wheelchair lift. However, we do our best to accommodate all of our passengers and can store mobility devices on the bus if necessary. Please call us to discuss your specific requirements.

Meet the Comedians

JD
JD is a backwards DJ and a creator of good times that's been entertaining audiences since the aughts, and most baby boomers think he oughtta quit rousing their rabbles!! He travels the region performing stand-up and has worked on comedy shows with the likes of Dave Attell, Jon Lovitz and Jon Reep to name a few. He was also a resident emcee at the CLT Comedy Zone. As a straight white man who can't sneeze without offending someone, he's always striving to be an equal opportunity offender!
JJ
JJ started making people laugh at the Comedy Store in L.A. in 2003. Today he's the entertainment host for Charlotte Knights baseball, Charlotte Checkers hockey and NCSTATE Wolfpack men's basketball. If you catch JJ on the Funny Bus you will be wildly entertained by his improv skills and witty performances. He's come full circle as some of his first jokes were told on a bus on the way to school. Forever the class clown , laughter follows him where ever he goes!
Roxanne
The Charlotte Observer said she is a dynamic performer who spews honesty and energy from the moment she hits the stage capturing audiences with stories about life, family, and being raised by a hippy in Anchorage Alaska. Recently named the comic "who should never be allowed in a liquor store." Roxanne has appeared on Silk Stalking's, Renegade and Homelands. She's opened for the comedy greats like TJ Miller, Tammy Pescatelli, Fortune Feimster, and Preacher Lawson. She is often requested on the Funny Bus as many women can relate to her jokes!
Tom
Thomas hails from the Queen City herself. Naturally this makes him love the city's history and future history even more! American Sign Language and nature are his two passions in life, which he exposes frequently…Improve is the name of the game when it comes to The Funny Bus tours and real life (raising many different types of animals), which of course leads to some hilarious situations and predicaments. Tom is a 5-year Funny Bus veteran and lifelong troublemaker!
Shaine
Shaine Laine is based out of Charlotte, NC where he was assigned female at birth. Through the energy of 7+ espresso shots, Shaine provides an updated twist on Southern Charm. He has opened for comedians Sam Tallent and Mark Normand and well-known drag queens Roxxxy Andrews, Heidi N. Closet, and Aunt Mary Pat. Shaine was crowned "Best Comedian 2019" by Queen City Nerve Magazine and is nominated for Pensacola Pride's "Queer of the Year 2021." Shaine O. Laine is a self-made man unlike any other.

"Charlotte's Funny Bus combines an informational city bus tour with a BYOB comedy show. Jokes are similar to what you'd see in an actual comedy club, so the trip is an adult-only way to learn about North Carolina's biggest city."

Time MONEY Magazine

We had a great afternoon on the Funny Bus! Being new to Charlotte, this was a fantastic way to learn about our new home. Our guide/comedian was Roxanne; she was a blast, informative, and hilarious! We will definitely return with out of town guests. I highly recommend this tour! Thanks for the laughs Roxanne!

BYOB bar on wheels? Are You Kidding? Sign Me Up, Please. I laughed so hard I was rolling in my seat. Seriously, My cheeks hurt, and had to gently massage them at the end of the tour. I could tell that Brandon, our tour guide/comedian, really enjoy & love what he do — and he's good at it too!

Had a great time learning about Charlotte. Roxanne kept us entertained and interested. It's a great way to spend a portion of an afternoon at a reasonable price.

Very fun! Great way to spend some time relaxing and seeing the city! Our driver had the whole bus laughing the whole time!

This was SUCH an awesome time!! Thomas and Drew are a great team. We laughed the whole time!! And even learned some cool History

I went with a friend who was visiting CLT for the first time as well as two other friends that had been here their entire lives. This tour was a blast for everybody involved. I was impressed by all the places we were able to see and learned a bunch of fun facts about the Queen City. JJ did a great job of keeping everybody engaged as well as laughing from start to finish. Safe to say that I will be doing this again.

Went on the Funny bus last night. our Comediean was Thomas and let me tell you he was amazing!!! If you go on and he's working you will have a blast. He was very interactive and we never had a dull moment. Also our bus driver Konica was a great time and very funny as well. Definitely planning on coming back and recommending this to everyone I know!

Our tour guide JD and driver Dee were awesome! Dee got us around safely and was super sweet. JD was hilarious. Upbeat and very informative about the city. The tour surpassed my expectations and I will definitely be returning to Again. Thanks you making my first visit to Charlotte memorable!

My husband and I visited Charlotte for the first time last weekend and took the funny bus tour with some friends. We had an awesome time! What a great way to get the feel of a new city… some history, seeing the neighborhoods, and the sports arenas and lots of laughs!! Both our tour guide and driver were great. The length of the tour seemed perfect.. and we also loved the pit stop at the brewery to refresh and stretch your legs for a minute. The Bus was clean and comfortable. Great way to spend a couple hours and get to know the surroundings!

We did the Rates R Funny Bus Tour and it was definitely worth it. Ill gladly do it again with anyone new who comes to town. I was able to learn a little more about Charlotte in a humorous way. I also loved that I was able to see places Ive never been to before so I can write them down and try them out. Awesome tour!

Absolutely hilarious! "White John" had great jokes and kept the whole bus involved! We had a great time and can't wait to do it again!

Fantastic! JJ was hilarious, the tour was informative (I learned things I didn't know and I've lived in Charlotte for more than a decade) and you can drink during the tour. We had a great time. CHURCH!
